Spooky Halloween party at home

Last weekend we had Poppy`s very first Halloween party at home. It was so much fun to share it with many of her little friends. And even though the majority of them are too small to understand (or even talk for that matter), we had great kids friendly snacks, funny costumes and great mum and kids play date. I was hoping for lower temperatures and garden party, but it was way to humid so we stayed inside instead. I think I went a bit over the top with the invitations and at some point the house was bubbling with countless little walking pumpkins, cats, wolfs and even a fireman. It`s safe to say that after wrapping it up there was almost no damages on the house (except for one set of coloring stamps).

I invited the guests with a custom made invite from Paperless post. I used them for our wedding invites and they are just the most creative people I know!

I Had this beautiful cotton fabric from Ikea and sewn my daughter a little Red riding hood costume. It is a skirt from the previous post, a cape (that I nailed from different patterns on pinterest) and a small apron, that it took no more than 10 minutes to put together. I think it went well and she was adorable in it.

I bought most decoration from Carrefour and Dayso. Most of the items will be used for the years to come.

And then it`s the food!

I really enjoyed making spooky treats that can be loved from all. We had stained deviled eggs:

I used this post to stain them and then filled them with their egg yolks, tablespoon of mayo, chopped parsley, smoked paprika and salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkled with chia seeds for more dramatic effect.

I also made these witch fingers using this recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup  sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups white flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • handful of almonds to decorate as nails

Preparation:

Using a mixer, beat the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and beat again. Add the rest of the dry ingredients. Form like fingers and score wrinkles using a butter knife. Place almonds like nails and bake until ready at 180 degrees.

For the worms using this recipe

I made small and easy pizzas using ready pita bread, tomato sauce, basil and cheese. Cut black olives like spiders and baked in the oven.

I made “vomiting” pumpkin using a plastic bucket pumpkin filled with tortilla chips and my homemade guacamole:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 ready to eat avocados
  • big handful of chopped parsley,
  • 1/4 chopped white onion
  • 2 small garlic cloves, chopped
  • handful cherry tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 limes, juiced
  • salt and pepper to tastePreparation: Mash the avocados using a fork, add the rest of the ingredients and stir well to combine. Keep in the fridge until it`s time to serve.

The rest was red crushed jello, apple “beetle” juice, spooky crisps and cheese strings on which I drawn ghost faces using a permanent marker.

I think we did pretty well and we all had fun. Spooky Halloween!
